Microsoft improves Skype thanks to Electron 11

Today the Redmond group has kicked off the release of an update for the preview version of Skype , the one reserved for Insiders, bringing it to release 8.69.76.49. The most important change announced by the changelog is the one concerning the adoption of the Electron 11 open source framework (available starting last November) which has allowed Microsoft to improve performance and stability.

Update to Electron 11 to improve general performance and fix some bugs caused by previous editions.

Another noteworthy novelty is the one that inserts a small icon above those of group chats to indicate who wrote the last message. An addition that can however be disabled simply by acting on an option within the settings. The update also introduces the possibility of purchasing a Skype number on iOS, but at this time reserved only for users located in the United States and the United Kingdom. Staying on the iOS theme, the software house has improved the management of notifications, while on Windows the start-up phase has been optimized.

Furthermore, the update brings with it some bugfixes related to anomalies manifested during use on Mac computers with macOS Big Sur operating system, related to the display of the icon on the taskbar and to the count of the remaining credit.

Those who want to participate in the Skype Insider program and thus contribute to the development phase carried out by Microsoft can do so by downloading the client from the official website .
