Office 2021 confirmed by Microsoft, it's official

Microsoft's new suite for productivity alternative to 365 will be called Office 2021 (and not Office 2022 as hypothesized by a rumor a few months ago) . It will be the update of the more traditional version of the package, the one to be installed locally on computers without leveraging the cloud infrastructure , to be paid only once at the time of purchase without any subscription to be subscribed and renewed periodically.

The official confirmation came directly from the Redmond group which, however, did not go into details regarding novelties and unpublished features. The press release is limited to talking about a debut later in 2021 and the guaranteed support for five years . Finally, the intention not to change the prices compared to those applied for the edition currently available was made known.

We also plan to release Office 2021 for personal and small business use later this year. Office 2021 will be supported for five years with the traditional “one-time purchase” model. We do not expect changes in the price of these products.

Microsoft will bring Office 2021 to market in editions for computers with Windows and macOS operating systems . The suite will be available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. OneNote is also included in the package .

The announcement also confirms the arrival of the new Office LTSC (Long Term Servicing Channe) for commercial customers, available from April in preview form and later this year in the final release. In this regard, some of the new features introduced have been put in black and white: from support for Dark Mode (visible above) to improvements in terms of accessibility, without forgetting Dynamic Arrays and XLOOKUP for Excel (it is entirely probable that the same functionalities will also be present in Office 2021). In this case, the license prices for the Professional Plus and Office Standard formulas, as well as those for the individual applications, were increased by 10%.
