On the pages of the official Google Meet blog, the announcement of a novelty that particularly interests those who in the educational field find themselves having to manage the online lessons of distance learning , having to deal with numerous classes every day: the possibility of silencing all with a single gesture, thus deactivating the microphones of those taking part in the class in one click.

New for Meet: Mute the whole class with a gesture

The novelty concerns the following types of Workspace profiles : Education Fundamentals and Education Plus. Currently excluding those Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus as well as those G Suite Basic, Business and Nonprofits, but that will change within the next few months.

The meeting organizer is the only user who can use the feature to silence everyone. Once attendees have been muted, the organizer cannot turn their microphones back on. Nonetheless, each user can do it himself when needed.

In the post on the official blog, Google announces that the functionality is for the moment reserved for meeting organizers who connect to Meet from a desktop browser, but the intention is to make it available on other platforms within the next few months. The rollout has already kicked off as an update, and within a couple of weeks or so it should hit everyone.

It is part of a full-bodied package with over 50 new features to debut on Meet and Classroom with the aim of simplifying the work of teachers , who are still busy today with the need to organize lessons using remote teaching methods
